Ask an Author Week #7: Kate Alister

Question: What genre (if any) have you always dreamed of writing but haven't found the time and/or inspiration to write?

Kate Alister: I would love to meet Steven King. More than just meet him, I would love to know him as a friend. He has the most creative mind of any author I've ever read. I've read everything that was avaible to read. I especially liked his Gunslinger series. When there was a long lapse of time continuing it, I could really understand his dilemma. The last book was so incredibly good, I couldn't figure out how he could possibly end the series. Bringing himself into the stories was brilliant in my opinion, and I loved the ending of the series. Twenty years of my life was devoted to the Gunslinger. Steven has a way of drawing the reader into his world, stange, unfamiliar and scary as it is, that in my opinion, as no other author has ever had.

Ask an Author Week #6: Kate Alister

Question: What genre (if any) have you always dreamed of writing but haven't found the time and/or inspiration to write?

Kate Alister: I am writing in the genre that I love. I have spent many years doing a job that paid well so that I could support my children in a manner that was acceptable to me. Writing is a new occupation, and if it isn't enjoyable, I just won't do it. This may sound crazy, but I wish I could have written xxxx because I loved that movie and thought it was a brilliant idea.

Ask An Author Week #5: Kate Alister

Question: What is your favorite Season to write in and why?

Kate Alister: Early summer provides glorious sunshine, beaches, sparkling ponds, rivers and oceans, warm breezes that carry intoxicating scents such as pine, jasmine, and gardenias. It's my favorite season to write in. The heroines can wear shorts exposing tempting legs, bikinis which present all sorts of allure, and bare arms and shoulders just waiting to be kissed. It's a great time of year for a romance writer.

Ask an Author Week #4: Kate Alister

Question: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Kate Alister: I would go to Italy because at least from what I'd been exposed to in novels, the men are very sensual and adore women. There are fantastic cities in which to shop, Milan comes to mind, tremenous history such as Pompei and Rome, and the romantic region of Tuscany. The food is extremely appealing becuase besides good sex, that is high on my list of pleasurable activities.

Ask An Author Week #3: Kate Alister

Question: If you could meet anyone of your characters in person, who would it be and why?

Kate Alister: My heroes are all much younger than I am so meeting them would be pointless. I also have a wonderful husband. I would like to meet Jack Hailey, the director of the CIA in my novels. Jack created a special team where loyalty to their country was mandatory, but emotional sensitivity and a strong respect for human life was also extremely necessary. Jack's team members were highly skilled and smart enough to fulfill mission objectives without compromizing their integrity. The team's methods were often unconconventional, but Jack gave them free reign because he believed in them. Jack formed his team after careful psychological analysis of the agents. These are his White Knights. He got as close to getting into their heads as anyone could. Jack looked after his people as if they were his own children, and he put them into situations where they could meet their life partners. What they did with the opportunity was up to them, but the books in series showed them more than capable of pursuing their dreams eventhough they were met with obstacles.

Ask An Author Week #2: Kate Alister

Question: If you could travel back in time for a month long vacation, which Era would you visit and why?

Kate Alister: I enjoy romance novels from any period because the heroines are able to overcome the gross injustices to women in the fictional stories. Women in the United States today have the most opportunity for career choices and financial success. However, it would be great fun to be wealthy during the Regency period, to be young, to be beautiful, to have gorgeous gowns, and to attend the wonder balls and parties in London during the season.

Ask An Author Week #1: Kate Alister

Question: If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have three books with which to read for five years, which three books would you take and why?

Kate Alister: I would take the first three books in my romantic suspense series: IRONWOOD ENCOUNTER, JUPITER ENGAGEMENT, AND CAMDEN ESCAPE. Although there are many romance novels that I loved, my own heroes are the closest to my heart because I created them just as I wanted them to be. Stranded on a desert island, I would be happy to keep improving the books, or be inspired to write more stories. Please let me at least have an unlimited supply of spiral notebooks and pens if I can't have a computer.
