Ask an Author Week #10: Ingela F. Hyatt

Question: What is the "coolest" or most interesting thing that has happened to you since becoming a published author?

Ingela F. Hyatt: I think there's a tie regarding the coolest thing that's happened to me... First was when I received my "author copies" of A Knight of Passion (copies of your book included in the contract with your publisher). I couldn't believe that the book I was holding in my hands had actually been written by me. It was such a surreal feeling, especially after striving so many years to be published and suffering so many rejections, it was humbling. And the other cool thing, was when I received an email from a reviewer who'd stayed up late to finish reading A Knight of Passion. And instead of going to sleep afterwards, she emailed me saying how much she absolutely loved my book. It was such a thrill to know my book had touched her as deeply as it had me (and yes, she gave me 5 stars and a recommended read). There is nothing like "fan" mail.

Ask an Author Week #9: Ingela F. Hyatt

Question: What is your favorite "guilty" pleasure and why?

Ingela F. Hyatt: I don't really have any "guilty" pleasures...but I do enjoy many things like eating Mexican food, drinking a nice dry red wine (Merlot being my favorite), sitting in front of the TV with my family and watching an old black & white movie (I enjoy the movies made in the 30s & 40s the most), playing computer strategy games, and going for walks on my property with my German Shepherd and four cats.

Ask an Author Week #8: Ingela F. Hyatt

Question: If you could meet any mythological or legendary creature/person, who would they be and why?

Ingela F. Hyatt: Hmmm...legendary creature or person? That's a toughie... I would like to meet Dracula. He's gotten a bad rap and I'd like to know his side of the story... I'd also like to meet Batman. For years I collected Batman Comics, and I believe he had some influence on my heroes. I'd like to know what truly makes him tick. And lastly, I'd like to meet James Bond. I don't think I need to explain why...He is a desperate prisoner escaped from the dungeons... She is his beautiful and daring captive... Ask an Author Week #7: Ingela F. Hyatt

Question: If you could meet any author in the world (dead or alive) who would it be and why?

Ingela F. Hyatt: I think I would need to write a whole article to answer this question properly, because I can't choose just one author. But I'll try to keep this short. For those authors who are dead...Shakespeare, of course. His plays inspired me to embrace literature, particularly Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, and my favorite, Hamlet. Charles Dickens whose life and writings are utterly amazing, and it would be a thrill to meet him. J.R.R. Tolkien for Lord of the Rings--the ultimate fantasy adventure which my mother read to me over and over again when I was a child. I think it is the reason I have such a vivid imagination. I would like to ask Mr. Tolkien what inspired him to write such a masterpiece. And I would have loved to have met Katherine E. Woodiwiss. I was deeply effected by her passing in 2007 (as many writers and readers). Her romances were so beautifully crafted and inspired a whole legion of authors. I wish I could have told her what her books meant to me.

Of the living...well, there are a whole slew of authors I would love to meet in person, and some of whom I've been lucky enough to converse with online. I've even developed friendships with some. I would love to meet: Teresa Medeiros, Jo Beverley, Bertrice Small, Gaelen Foley, Virginia Henley, Karen Marie Moning, Nicole Jordan, Liz Carlyle, Dean Koontz, James Patterson, Stephen King, Mary Balogh, Eloisa James, and Cheryl Holt...just to name a few.

Ask an Author Week #6: Ingela F. Hyatt

Question: What genre (if any) have you always dreamed of writing but haven't found the time and/or inspiration to write?

Ingela F. Hyatt: Good question. When I first began writing, I never dreamed I'd want to write anything other than Medieval Romance. Then I discovered the Georgian Era and I haven't looked back. I'd love to write romances set in ancient Egypt and feudal Japan, but those are still historicals, of course. Recently though, I've become obcessed with Paranormal Romance. I can't seem to read enough, and I have several Paranormal series crowding my thoughts. One series in particular is just dying to get out and I'm hoping I'll find the time and inspiration soon---I can't wait to write it! There's just something about Vampires that gets the blood flowing...

Ask An Author Week #5: Ingela F. Hyatt

Question: What is your favorite Season to write in and why?

Ingela F. Hyatt: I can write in any Season, but I love to write in the Winter. Especially when it's pouring rain outside and I'm huddled in front of my latop, madly typing away.  It might be cold and miserable when I'm writing, but in my story, it's warm and sunny...

Ask an Author Week #4: Ingela F. Hyatt

Question: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Ingela F. Hyatt: There are SO many places I would love to visit and hope to one day. I must go to Britain, and in particular, Scotland--every time I read about or see photos of Scotland, I'm filled with this overwhelming longing to go there and walk the land...it's like my soul is calling out to me. To France for the culture, the food, and the people. I don't want go to the big cities like Paris, but the small out of the way places and villages in the country, especially in Normandy and Brittany. And I would love to visit Italy. I want to reach out and touch the Colosseum, I want to see the amazingly advanced technology of the ancient Romans, to walk where they once tread. I also would love to visit a village by the sea. Actually, I would love to travel all over Europe...which is probably why Rick Steves' travel show is among my favorites.

Ask An Author Week #3: Ingela F. Hyatt

Question: If you could meet anyone of your characters in person, who would it be and why?

Ingela F. Hyatt: Wow, that is a really hard question to answer. Well, I feel for all my heroines, and I love ALL my heroes...BUT if I had to choose, I think it would be a tie between Alexande Fredrick Augustus Telford (Marquis of Ravenspur) and Sir Garrett Montgomery (the Raven). I would love to me Alexande, not just because he's dark, dangerous, and sexy as hell, but because he is my first full fledged rogue and inspired a whole series of books in a time period I never dreamed of writing (Georgian England--my first books were all written in Medieval England). And Sir Garrett because he is a dark and tortured soul who is the protagonist of a book I wrote many years ago and I have never forgotten him. In fact, I've promised myself I will one day go back and revise the manuscript so Garrett's story can be published. Of course, I would love to meet the current hero of my WIP, Logan...and wouldn't mind being seduced by him either. ;)

Ask An Author Week #2: Ingela F. Hyatt

Question: If you could travel back in time for a month long vacation, which Era would you visit and why?

Ingela F. Hyatt: I think it's hard for me to pick just one Era as there are so MANY I'd like to visit. It would be a toss up between Ancient Egypt, Ancient Germanic/Teutonic Europe, and Georgian England. Why? I've always been fascinated with Ancient Egypt. It's as if the Pharaohs call to my soul from their ancient tombs. I find the culture, the history amazing and hope to write a series of novels based there one day. The reason for Ancient Germanic/Teutonic Europe is because of my fascination with their Gods, their Myths and their culture. So many things which we, in our modern lives, take for granted (such as equal rights for women, and laws) originally came from that time, and I'd really like to see it firsthand. Lastly, I'd like to visit the Georgian Era because it was an amazing time for England, which is where/when the current series I'm writing takes place. It was on the cusp of the Industrial Revolution, and was a golden age of discovery.

Writing has always been my passion, and it began in grade five when I was forced to either memorize a poem each day and recite it for the class, or write a poem and read it to the class. After reciting my first poem (The Cremation of Sam McGee) and hating it, I quickly discovered I had a talent for writing poetry and wrote about every topic under the sun, from fluffy white clouds to my big toe... *shudder* But it wasn’t long before I moved on to short stories, though I still had a habit of writing sappy love poetry which I wouldn’t touch now with a ten foot pole.

Ask An Author Week #1: Ingela F. Hyatt

Question: If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have three books with which to read for five years, which three books would you take and why?

Ingela F. Hyatt: Well, if I really must choose only three books... I think I would want The Poetic Edda (Codex Regius) as translated by Lee M. Hollander--a thousand year old manuscript found in Iceland. It contains the orginal myths and wisdom of the Norse people and is utterly facinating. I thank that's where my love of the Norse Gods and Myths began. The complete Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. My mother read this book to me as a child, which I think is the reason why I have such a vivid imagination. And lastly...History of My Life by Giacomo Casanova (unabridged). I have read volumes 1 through 4, and not only is it a fascinating account of Casanova's life, but a window into 18th Century Europe. These books would certainly keep me going for a while. ;)
